The step-cut emerald shape (opens in new tab) produces a “hall of mirrors” effect, particularly the more narrow emerald diamonds. Although it doesn’t produce the same brilliance as round and princess cut diamonds, it does emanate bursts of light, giving the emerald cut certain elegance. Some emerald shaped diamonds are very narrow while others are closer to square shaped. Emerald shaped diamonds are commonly used as center stones with half-moon or trapezoid side stones and as side stones to either a larger center emerald diamond. They also make great side stones to brilliant cuts such as the princess, radiant or cushion cut diamond.
